How much detention is this load owed?
Put in your rate con's free time and detention rate and the times at each stop. See what the load should earn, how long you have left to bill, and what proof the broker will ask for.
The math runs in your browser. Nothing you type is saved or sent unless you ask us to check your other loads. Have a rate con PDF? Try the rate con checker to pull the terms out of it.
01 / Owed
Detention and layover for each stop, with the clock starting at the appointment if you were early and time rounded down to the quarter hour.
02 / Deadline
Enter the delivery date and your rate con's billing window to see how many days you have left to bill.
03 / Proof
What to send the broker so the claim gets paid: rate con terms, stamped times, and your notice.
1 / Rate con terms
Use what your rate con (or the broker's email) actually says. We never fill in a default rate: with no rate, a long stop shows as "needs proof."
3 / Billing window (optional)
2 / Times at each stop

$0.00
Enter the times at each stop.
An estimate from the times and terms you entered, not a guarantee. Brokers pay under your rate con and agreements. Runs in your browser; nothing is saved or sent.
What to send the broker
- The rate con (or broker email) showing free time and the detention rate
- Arrival and departure times: the stamped BOL or your ELD stop report
- Proof you notified the broker while you were waiting, if the rate con requires notice
- The appointment time, if you arrived early (the clock starts at the appointment)
Free 90-day audit
Want us to check the rest of your loads?
We go through your last 90 days of rate cons, BOLs and ELD times and show every detention, layover, TONU, lumper and short-pay you earned and never collected. Free. You approve anything before it's billed.
About this calculator
It uses the same rules as our audits: the clock starts at the appointment if you arrived early, a late arrival is flagged because many rate cons void detention then, billable time is rounded down to the quarter hour, and caps are applied. It never assumes a detention rate. Your rate con and any broker emails decide what's owed, so treat this as an estimate, not legal or financial advice. See the detention billing guide and the Privacy Policy.
